Whilst not strictly WCRPS news the committee thought that the information regarding the newly created CHART scheme should be repeated here to help spread the news to a wider audience.

Chiltington Area Response Team (CHART)

This scheme is be ing set up in conjunction with Sussex Ambulance Service NHS Trust to provide a response team to call in the event of a cardiac arrest or other serious medical conditions in the West Chiltington area.  The aim is to provide medical help more rapidly than can be achieved with an ambulance, resulting in a greater chance of survival.  Every minute saved in administering treatment increases the chances of survival by 20%.

A meeting was held in February attended by over 100 people, at which 28 volunteeted to be trained as responders.  These 28 had an assesment and will be invited to attend one of two training courses in the near future.  Other volunteers met to discusss the mapping of houses, secretarial work and fund raising.

Immediate needs to get the scheme operational are 3 responder kits each with automatic defribulator and oxygen equipment costing £2000 complete.  Mallards Estate Agents and  Charles James Homes Ltd have kindly agreed to fund the first complete kits.  As the project develops into 24/7 coverage. additional kits will need to be purchased.  Many smaller items will also be required and therefore ALL gifts will be much appreciated.

CHART now has officers and a bank account and is applying for charity status in order to claim Gift Aid.
